In recognition of its growing international portfolio, Büro Ole Scheeren announces the expansion of its office structure with the opening of two new studios in Berlin and Bangkok. To mark its 5th year anniversary and conduct projects across East Asia, Europe and North America, essential positions to the management team are being appointed including a new CFO and a new partner.
“It has been a very productive initial five years of Buro-OS and I’m excited to open two new offices and actively increase our engagement around the world” says Ole Scheeren. “Having spent an incredible past decade focused on the realization of multiple projects across Asia we are now extending our range of work with projects in Europe and North America.”
Büro Ole Scheeren’s Berlin studio will act as a European base for work across the western hemisphere, while Büro Ole Scheeren in Bangkok, together with its subsidiary HLS, is charged with the further design development and construction supervision of the MahaNakhon tower, soon to be completed as Thailand’s tallest skyscraper.
Since establishing his studio in Beijing and Hong Kong together with long-time collaborator Eric Chang, Scheeren’s office continues to grow and exemplify his diverse interests and ability to work on architectural projects of varying scales and typologies in multiple cultures and contexts. “Our practice reflects the realities of a globally active architecture firm and establishing these two new bases of operation expands our capabilities to shape the environments around us towards a compelling sustainable vision of the future” Ole Scheeren adds.
Concurrent with its expansion, Büro Ole Scheeren appoints new members to its core team: “At this very important junction for the office I would also like to highlight the core leadership team of Buro-OS, which has contributed its integrated abilities and experience to the design, organization, and realization of our wide-ranging projects.”
Dan Cheong is being appointed Partner. He has been part of the office since its inception and has collaborated closely with Ole Scheeren for over ten years as team leader on numerous projects from concept design through construction.
Sampsa Karhunen joins Büro Ole Scheeren as Chief Financial Officer and brings extensive experience from his background in financial markets to oversee the business operations of the company and support its growth and expansion to new areas.
“With four international offices Buro-OS develops into a small multinational. We expect a strong and sustainable growth over the next decade with an organization tailored to our client’s expectations”, states Sampsa Karhunen.
